Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop and validate the Korean version of Body Image after Breast Cancer Questionnaire, which was developed originally by Baxter et al(2006) to study the body image in a multidimensional fashion for breast cancer patients. Followed are the major results: First, the factor structure, reliability, item property were analyzed for 268 breast cancer patients. Exploratory factor analysis revealed six factors: (1) Body stigma, (2) Arm concerns, (3) Body concerns, (4) Vulnerability, (5) Transparency, and (6) Limitations. The result of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the stable six factor model fit properly. The internal consistency of the K-BIBCQ and its subscale were satisfactory.
Second, criterion-related evidence of validity were investigated. Correlations of the subscales with standardized measures of related constructs were moderately significant and supportive of the convergent validity. Observed relationships with other measures, such as Depression, Anxiety of SCL-90-R and Sexual Function of EORTC QLQ-BR23, supported the predictive validity. Third, the K-BIBCQ showed differences between women treated with lumpectomy and mastectomy, and between women with no breasts, one breast, and two breasts. Finally, these findings suggest that K-BIBCQ is useful for both clinical and research applications.
